UK nations August 2019: Tesla Model 3 lands at #1 in London, #3 in England, #6 in Scotland, MG ZS at record #2 in Wales

The MG ZS is up to a record 2nd place in Wales in August.

Thanks to our partnership with SMMT we can share with you today the Top 10 best-sellers for all UK nations in August. Keep in mind this is a zoom in by nation, all sales figures being included in our upcoming August 2019 UK update. This month Scotland (+1.7%) at 7.211 units and Wales (+0.7%) at 3.217 both timid gains in contrast with Northern Ireland (-8.3%) falling hard to 3.394 and England (-1.6%) at 78.417. Year-to-date however, all UK nations are in negative with Northern Ireland (-1.1%) this time the best performer at 37.989 units followed by Wales (-1.4%) at 51.459, Scotland (-3%) at 117.031 and England (-3.5%) at 1.308.514.

The big news of the month in the UK is the third place of the Tesla Model 3 across the country which we will detail shortly. Perhaps the most impressive facet of this successful launch is the Model 3’s outright pole position in London with over 300 sales and just under 10% market share, leading to a third place in England with 2.5% share and just under 2.000 sales, but also a 6th place in Scotland with just over 150 sales and 2% share. Note these figures may be slightly lower as Tesla has requested to have the Model 3 included in the “Other” category which also includes some luxury brands.

The Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling vehicle in London in August.

In August the Ford Fiesta returns a full scoreboard, ranking #1 in all four UK nations. The MG ZS stuns with a 2nd place overall in Wales while the MG3 breaks into the Welsh Top 10 for the first time at #7. This is the MG ZS’s 7th Top 10 finish ever in Wales, all in the past 13 months and a new ranking record beating its previous best of #4 hit last November and May. The VW T-Roc justifies its first ever UK Top 10 finish (which we will detail in our August UK update) by ranking inside the Top 10 of all 4 UK nations for the first time: #2 in Scotland (new record, previous best #3 last November), #6 in Wales (2nd ever Top 10 after #9 in November 2018) and first Top 10 in England (#9) and Northern Ireland (#10).

The VW Golf ranks #2 in England, #3 in Scotland and Wales and #4 in Northern Ireland, the Ford Kuga is #2 in Northern Ireland, #4 in Wales, #6 in England and #7 in Scotland and the VW Tiguan is #3 in Northern Ireland and #7 in England. Other great performers include the Ford Ecosport at #5 in Scotland for its 2nd ever Top 10 finish after last month (#10), #5 in Wales and #9 Northern Ireland, its best ranking there also hit in November and December 2018. The Toyota C-HR breaks its ranking record in Ireland at #7 (previous best #8 in August 2018 and January 2019) and cracks the Scottish Top 10 for the first time (#10), finally the Seat Leon is up to #10 in England.
