Thanks to our partnership with SMMT we can share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for all UK nations in May. Keep in mind this is a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are included in the May 2018 UK update. An opposite picture from last month: Scotland (+13.7%) is by far the best performer among UK nations in May, followed by Northern Ireland (+6%) and Wales (+5.8%) whereas Englands lags behind at a shy +2.6%. Year-t-date, this time it’s Northern Ireland that fares best at -3.4% to 25.491 units, followed by Wales at -5.9% to 36.067, England at -6.6% to 930.627 and Scotland is in the naughty corner with a harsh 10.4% decline to just 84.297 registrations.
This month the Ford Focus is the only nameplate to feature on each nation’s podium, even topping 2 nations: Northern Ireland (+95%) for the first time since we started following UK nations monthly in January 2013, and Scotland (+263%) for only the third time in the past 5 years after October 2014 and July 2017. It also ranks #3 in England and #2 in Wales. The Ford Fiesta tops England and Wales but ranks at a paltry #4 in both Northern Ireland and Scotland. Other podium finishers are the VW Golf (#2 in England and #3 in Northern Ireland), Ford Kuga (#2 in Northern Ireland and #3 in Wales), Vauxhall Corsa (#2 in Scotland) and VW Polo (#3 in Scotland).
Among other great performers this month, the Skoda Fabia posts its first Northern Irish Top 10 of the year at #8, the Skoda Octavia lodges its first Top 10 in Northern Ireland since we started following UK nations monthly in January 2013, the Vauxhall Crossland X is the best-selling SUV in Scotland and inside the Top 5 for the second time ever after last February, the Hyundai i10 snaps its first Scottish Top 10 since November 2016 at #8, the BMW 4 Series posts its first ever Scottish Top 10 at #9 and the Ford Ecosport hit a highest ever 4th place in Wales.
