Belarus First Half 2019: Lada (+109.9%) reclaims #1 spot for first time since 2012 in market up 37.6%

New car sales in Belarus continue to surge ahead with a whopping 37.6% year-on-year improvement over the First Half of 2019 following a 70.5% lift in H1 2018. Thunder strikes atop the brands ranking: thanks to sales more than doubling year-on-year, Lada (+109.9%) spectacularly reclaims the top spot for the first time since 2012 with 27.6% share vs. 18.1% a year ago, and if maintained until the end of 2019 this would end 5 consecutive years of Renault domination. The French carmaker (+6.1%) is knocked down to #2 while Volkswagen (+9.5%) remains at #3, both brands losing significant share year-on-year. Geely (+281.1%) multiplies its registrations by 4 vs. H1 2018 and confirms it is the #4 brand in the country, now teasing the symbolic 10% share milestone at 9.7%. Skoda (+51.6%) and Kia (+39.9%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Nissan (-19.9%) is down 4 ranks to #8.

Model-wise the Lada Vesta (+117.1%) confirms it is the new favourite of Belorussian drivers, distancing the leader of the previous 5 years, the VW Polo (+16.2%) seeing its share thaw from 9.5% to 8% year-on-year. The Renault Logan (+4.8%) steps up to the podium for only 9 sales above the Geely Atlas (+119.4%) up to #4 from #10 in H1 2018 and #6 in FY2018. The Lada XRAY (+238.8%) also scores a spectacular progression up to #5, knocking the Renault Sandero Stepway (-4.2%) down 3 spots to #6. The Lada Granta (+195.1%) triples its sales year-on-year to return inside the Top 10 at #8. Notice also the Geely Emgrand X7 up to #12, the Geely Emgrand 7 up to #16, the Renault Logan Stepway landing at #17 and the Skoda Kodiaq up to #18.
