Austria June 2019: Skoda Octavia (+19%) cements YTD #1, Seat Ibiza (+73.9%), Leon (+35.3%) shine in market down -14.4%

Seat Ibiza sales soar 75.3% year-on-year in Austria in June.

New car sales in Austria implode -14.4% year-on-year in June to 32.529 registrations, pulling the year-to-date volume down -8.8% to 175.909. Volkswagen (-25.9%) pays the price for a pre-WLTP-boosted June 2018 but remains one percentage point of share above its YTD level at 17.6% vs. 16.6%. All its Top 5 followers outpace the market though, with Seat (+9.9%), Skoda (+4.9%) and Ford (+3.9%) all clearly into positive territory and Opel (-5.9%) containing its loss to the single-digits. In contrast, Hyundai (-39%), Renault (-29.6%), BMW (-19.2%) and Audi (-17.6%) are all in dire straits. Further down, Tesla (+694.9%), DS (+27.3%), Mini (+17.9%), Suzuki (+15.2%) and Smart (+11.6%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+19%) cements its new-found YTD leadership, outselling traditional #1 the VW Golf (-38.7%) by almost 300 sales for the month. The VW Polo (-30.5%), T-Roc (-24.9%), Tiguan (-31.4%), Skoda Fabia (-6.8%), Seat Ibiza (+73.9%), Leon (+35.3%), VW Bus (-45.9%), Touran (+25.5%) and Seat Ateca (+1.8%) mean there are 11 VW Group nameplates in the Top 13, with the Fiat 500 (+17.5%) and Opel Corsa (+77%) the odd ones out. The Tesla Model 3 is back up 74 spots on May to #17 and the VW T-Cross back up 34 to #18, neither breaking their Austrian ranking records however.
