Qatar January-May 2019: Toyota Land Cruiser (+10.4%) sails off to 16.1% share in market still down (-2.7%)

The Toyota Land Cruiser cements its domination of the Qatari market.

After three consecutive years of double-digit losses, new car sales in Qatar continue to slow down their fall but remain in negative territory so far this year at -2.7% to 19.675 units over the first 5 months of the year. Toyota (+7.1%) goes against the trend to post the only gain in the Top 5, resulting in a mammoth 37% share over the period vs. 33.7% a year ago. Nissan (-7.7%) holds onto the #2 spot ahead of Kia (-7%) overtaking Mitsubishi (-33.6%) with Lexus (-25.5%) also in dire straits but remaining at #5. Ford (+40.3%), Honda (+13.1%), Hyundai (+4.3%) and Chevrolet (+2.5%) all manage an uptick in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, MG (+721.2%) leaps up 10 spots to #12, with Mazda (+17.6%), Suzuki (+13.4%) and Isuzu (+12%) also in excellent shape.

Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser (+10.4%) goes against the negative grain, improving its share from 14.2% to 16.1% and selling more than 3 times the amount of the #2, the Nissan Sunny (+90.1%) up 5 spots on a year ago. The Toyota Hilux (+8.5%) also advances, up 2 to #3 but the Lexus LX (-32.9%) is panting, down 2 to #4. The Honda City (+65.4%), Toyota Yaris (+64.9%) and Camry (+34.9%) also excel in the Top 10. The Toyota Ace (#38) is the best-selling newcomer ahead of the MG 350 (#45), Toyota Rush (#61) and Honda HR-V (#72).
