Switzerland April 2019: Skoda (+54%), VW (+17.7%) lift market up 7.9%, Tesla Model 3 down to #6
The Skoda Kodiaq sees its sales shoot up 170.4% year-on-year in Switzerland.
The Swiss new car market gains a solid 7.9% year-on-year in April to 28.620 registrations, tilting the year-to-date volume into positive territory at +2.1% to 100.685. Volkswagen (+17.7%) and Skoda (+54%) stun with fantastic gains and rank #1 and #3 respectively, Skoda snapping the #2 YTD spot off Mercedes (+0.9%) as a result and BMW (+3.1%) sliding in 2nd place for the month. Opel (+23.1%) and Seat (+17.3%) also shine in the Top 10 whereas Renault (-27.2%) and Audi (-19.8%) struggle mightily. Further down, Tesla (+703%), Jaguar (+95.8%), Nissan (+63.6%), Subaru (+48.5%), Volvo (+42.4%) and Land Rover (+20.4%) make themselves noticed.
Model-wise, as it is also the case in Norway and the Netherlands, last month’s reign of the Tesla Model 3 was short-lived, with the EV down 5 spots to #6 in April at 1.7% share which remains an outstanding performance. The VW Tiguan (+33.8%) takes the lead for the third time in the past 10 months after last July and August, and now ranks #2 YTD above the VW Golf (-16%). Meanwhile the Skoda Octavia (+16.8%) cements its YTD lead at 3% share vs. 2.2% for the Tiguan. Skoda even manages to place 3 nameplates in the Top 5 with the Karoq (+133.3%) and Kodiaq (+170.4%) ranking 4th and 5th respectively. The Mercedes A-Class (+116.8%), Volvo XC40 (+102.7%), Subaru XV (+79.8%), Seat Alhambra (+72%), Hyundai Kona (+59.1%), BMW X3 (+51.6%) and Seat Ateca (+30.6%) also shine in the Top 25.
