Finland March 2019: Toyota Corolla #5, Tesla Model 3 #15 in market plunging -21.2%

The new Toyota Corolla is already #5 in Finland.

New car sales in Finland remain a desolate landscape: March is down an abysmal -21.2% to 9.141 units, marking a 6th double-digit drop in the past 7 months and a 7th decline in as many months. The year-to-date volume is now down a painful -15.6% to 28.736. Brand leaders Toyota (-20.3%) and Volkswagen (-22.1%) roughly match the market drop, while last month’s #1 Skoda (-34.7%) crumbles down to #3. There are no gainers in the Top 13, with BMW (-4.6%), Kia (-5.2%) and Mercedes (-5.9%) opposing the best resistance to the depressed context. Below, Tesla (+325%) is up 6 spots on February to #17 with 1.7% share thanks to the arrival of the Model 3, with Mitsubishi (+162.5) and Citroen (+3.6%) the only other gainers in the entire Top 30.

The Nissan Qashqai (-10%), overall Finnish best-seller over the Full Year 2018, is back in charge thanks to a contained loss but the Ford Focus (+59.2%) is once again threatening in 2nd place while the Toyota Yaris (-22.3%) and Skoda Octavia (-37.7%) fade away. Replacing the discontinued Auris, the Toyota Corolla is already up to the task and points at #5 this month, its highest ranking in Europe so far. The Volvo V60 (+175.3%) is propelled to the largest gain in the Top 25 by a new generation, with the Volvo XC40 (+320.8%), Toyota RAV4 (+122.6%), Mercedes A-Class (+112.5%), Skoda Karoq (+96.9%), VW Tiguan (+55.3%), Kia Niro (+50.8%) and BMW 3 Series (+38.7%) also posting splendid gains, Finally, the Tesla Model 3 makes its landing in the Finnish Top 15 this month.
