Slovakia July 2018: Skoda Octavia reclaims top spot

The Skoda Octavia is the best-selling nameplate in Slovakia in July.

New car sales in Slovakia leap up 8.7% year-on-year in July to 8.716 registrations, lifting the year-to-date volume up 6.8% to 60.607 units. Brand leader Skoda (-0.5%) is stable, resulting in a share thawing from 19.1% a year ago to 17.5% this month. Reversely Volkswagen (+37%) up to 10% share vs. 9.2% YTD and Renault (+66%) up to 7% vs. 4.5% YTD both surge ahead, potentially boosted by pre-WLTP stock clearing promotions. Seat (+219%), Ford (+92%), Jeep (+92%), Subaru (+92%), Nissan (+89%), Lada (+75%), Volvo (+54%), Lexus (+25%) and Toyota (+22%) also post spectacular gains in Slovakia in July. Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (-29%) is back above the Fabia (-15%) but the latter keeps the YTD lead with a 172-unit advantage over the Octavia. The Skoda Rapid (-11%) is back up two spots on June to return the podium to 100% Skoda, with the Kia Cee’d (+20%) and Hyundai i30 (+35%) in tow.
