Tahiti (France) Full Year 2017: Peugeot tops market surging 40%

The Dacia Duster was #1 in Tahiti in 2016. 2017 models data is yet to be obtained by BSCB.

Tahiti is a French overseas collectivity located in the South Pacific Ocean 4.400 km / 2.734 miles south of Hawaii and 5,700 km / 3,542 miles east of Australia. See the location of Tahiti on the map below. Tahiti was part of the Kingdom of Tahiti until its annexation by France in 1880, although it was not until 1946 that indigenous Tahitians were legally authorised to be French citizens. After having hit a 22 year-low in 2015 at 3.920 units, Tahiti’s new car market has rebounded spectacularly with sales up 15.4% in 2016 to 4.526 and further 40% to 6.340 in 2017. Peugeot remains the most popular carmaker on the archipelago with 747 sales and 11.8% share, followed by Kia which managed to outsell sister-brands Hyundai (#4) for the first time with Toyota sandwiched in-between at #3. Renault and Dacia are in tow. In 2016, the Dacia Duster was the best-selling model in Tahiti and we are in touch with our local contacts to try and get more detailed 2017 information for you.
