Thailand November 2017: Toyota down 7% in market up 20.6%

The Thai new car market shoots up 20.6% year-on-year in November to 78.082 registrations, the second largest volume this year after March (84.801) and lifting the year-to-date volume up 12.5% to 767.345 units. Toyota frankly underperforms with a 7% drops but remains above its YTD level at 27.8% vs. 27.1% so far this year. Isuzu trails the market slightly at +18% to 18.2% share but the next eight most popular carmakers (!) all at least double the market growth: Mercedes (+67%), Nissan (+56%), Mazda (+56%), Mitsubishi (+45%) and Ford (+43%) are the most impressive followed by Suzuki (+41%), Honda (+40%) and Chevrolet (+37%). Outside the Top 10, BMW (+96%), Kia (+57%), Subaru (+35%) and MG (+26%) also shine.
In the models ranking, the Isuzu D-Max is up 21% to 15.3% share to keep a comfortable distance with its archenemy the Toyota Hilux down 21% to 11.6%. The Ford Ranger is up 49% to make the podium 100% pickups, followed by the Mazda2 up 90% to lead all passenger cars at #4 overall. The Mitsubishi Triton (+39%), Honda City (+53%) and Toyota Fortuner (+29%) follow, all outpacing the market while the all-new Toyota Yaris Ativ is down five spots on October to #8 and the Toyota Yaris down 41% to #9. The Honda Jazz (+44%), Chevrolet Colorado (+46%), Mitsubishi Attrage (+61%), Suzuki Ciaz (+50%) and Honda CR-V (+408%) all impress inside the Top 20. This month we welcome the MG ZS crossover at #64 with 11 sales, while the Nissan Kicks, Toyota C-HR and Mitsubishi XPander are all getting ready for a 2018 release.
