New car sales in Romania lose ground year-on-year for the second time in the past four months at -3.5% to 9.311 registrations, yet the year-to-date volume remains comfortably in positive territory at 98.116 units, up 14.6% on the same period a year ago. Homegrown market leader Dacia goes against the grain with a 1% improvement to 29.8% share, well above the 28% it commands year-to-date. Skoda remains in 2nd place despite a 10% drop, followed by Renault surging 27% to #3, Opel up 7% and Volkswagen imploding down 38% to #5. Ford (-11%) and Mercedes (-8%) also struggle whereas Toyota (+35%) and Suzuki (+50%) post the largest year-on-year gains in the Top 10. Below, Mazda (+21%), Nissan (+35%) and Fiat (+43%) impress while Hyundai (-24%), Porsche (-32%), Peugeot (-33%), Volvo (-36%), Land Rover (-41%), Honda (-47%) and Mitsubishi (-48%) are all in great difficulty.
Over in the models ranking, the Dacia Logan unsurprisingly holds onto the top spot in spite of a 9% year-on-year drop to 17.4% share. The Dacia Duster is enjoying a 17% revival just as the outgoing generation is getting discounted, selling more than double the next best-seller the Skoda Octavia (-6%) with the Dacia Samdero (-7%) and Opel Astra (-10%) rounding out the Top 5. The Renault Megane (+165%) is the big winner in the Tp 10, while below the Nissan Qashqai (+89%), Ford Kuga (+219%), Dacia Dokker (+309%), Kia Cee’d (+75%) and Fiat Tipo (+121%) shine. The Opel Crossland X (#40) dominates recent launches above the Toyota C-HR (#42), Skoda Kodiaq (#44) and Suzuki Ignis (#54).
