Romania September 2017: Dacia up 47% in market up 11.4%

New car sales in Romania are up 11.4% year-on-year in September to 10.425 registrations, leading to a year-to-date total up 15.8% to 78.769 units. Exceptional performance of homegrown market leader Dacia surging 47% on September 2016 to 31.9% share vs. 27.7% year-to-date, distancing Skoda (-1%) and Volkswagen (-9%), both struggling. Opel (+18%), Toyota (+22%), Renault (+36%) and Suzuki (+53%) also shine inside the Top 10 while beyond, Volvo (+22%), Porsche (+24%), Citroen (+28%) and Fiat (+40%) make themselves noticed. Like last month, the top three best-sellers are Dacias, and in September they all surge ahead: the Logan is up 32% year-on-year to 18.4% share vs. 15.9% year-to-date, the Duster is up 71% to 6.6% vs. 6.1% so far this year and the Sandero is up 134% to 5.2% vs. 3.6% in 2017. The Skoda Octavia (+14%) returns to the most popular foreigner title ahead of the Opel Astra (-2%) and VW Golf (+34%) while the Renault Clio soars 120% to #7. Other impressive performers include the Renault Megane up 184% to #10, the Opel Mokka up 111% to #15 and the Ford Kuga up 126% to #17. The Toyota C-HR (#50), Skoda Kodiaq (#54), Suzuki Ignis (#78) and VW Arteon (#91) dominate recent launches (<12 months).
