Still feeling the brunt of civil war, the Yemeni new car market is however on the mend with sales up 85% over the First Half of 2017 to 1.965 registrations, this after freefalling 65% in 2015 and 62% in 2016. Market leader Toyota is at the origin of this recovery, itself improving 3-fold from 42.8% to an implacable 78.3% share. Nissan (-16%) remains in 2nd place while both BMW (+10%) and Land Rover (-21%) gain one spot to #3 and #4 respectively. Kia (+31%) and Lexus (+900%) also improve, albeit from very low bases. Expectedly, Toyota monopolises the models podium, placing the Toyota Land Cruiser in pole position with 34.5% share above the Hilux at 21.1% and the Land Cruiser Pickup at 14.8%. The Nissan Patrol (-37%) drops two spots to #4, while the Range Rover is up one to #5. The BMW 5 Series is the best-selling passenger car in Yemen (!) and the only one in the Top 15! Yemen is definitely the kingdom of SUVs and pickups.
