Yemen H1 2026: Toyota Hilux keeps lead in market tumbling down -16.2%
The new gen Toyota Hilux hasn’t reached Yemen just yet.
New light vehicle sales in Yemen are down a harsh -16.2% year-on-year over H1 to just 4,355 units. This is due to a horrendous Q2 result with April down -59.1% over 2025, May off -66.9% and June down -51.6%. Toyota (-15.6%) continues to suffocate the market with 88.9% share, slightly above its year-ago result. Lexus (+3.7%) improves by one percentage point to 5.1%, while Suzuki (-42.3%) and Hyundai (-34.6%) both implode. We have four new carmakers entering the market over the period, all Chinese: Geely, Jetour, Soueast and Chery.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-21.2%) holds onto the top spot but loses share year-on-year and the Toyota Land Cruiser (-13.2%) is catching up. In contrast the Land Cruiser Pickup (-34.9%) freefalls but stays in third position. The Lexus LX (+0.5%) overtakes the Toyota Fortuner (-28.9%) to #4 with the Toyota Coaster (+297%) up 4-fold to #6. The Geely Coolray lands at #12 and the Jetour T2 i-DM at #19.
