Sweden June 2017: Volvo S/V90 #1, Hyundai up 94%, places i20 in Top 10
Hyundai almost doubles its Swedish sales year-on-year in June.

There’s nothing stopping the Swedish new car market this year: June is up 5.6% to 38.324 registrations, the highest ever figure for the month, lifting the year-to-date tally up 3.2% to a record 193.530 units. It seems that Swedes are getting more and more dependent of their cars these days, showing a potential failure of public transport. According to a recent SKOP survey, presented by BIL Sweden, a large majority of Swedes (64%) consider to be totally or completely dependent on the car for everyday life to work, up from 61% in 2013. Homegrown Volvo remains in the brands lead despite a 6% drop to 19.6% and is followed as usual by Volkswagen down 0.3% to 14.4%. Toyota surges 20% to third place and 6.1%, overtaking BMW (+0.2%) to claim the third year-to-date spot as well. Hyundai is the hero of the month with deliveries soaring 94% to 5th place and 5.2% share vs. #13 and 2.4% so far in 2017. Notice also Mercedes (+24%), Citroen (+44%), Seat (+32%), Mini (+33%), Land Rover (+122%), Tesla (+58%), Jeep (+69%) and Alfa Romeo (+458%) all excelling this month.
Over in the models ranking, the new Volvo S/V90 reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date off the Volvo XC60, #1 in May, with a strong 7.3% market share vs. 6.5% so far in 2017. The XC60, now helped with the arrival ion the new generation, remains in great shape with a 29% year-on-year surge this month and +79% year-to-date. In contrast, both the VW Golf (-29%) and Passat (-27%) take harsh hits, partly compensated buy the good health of the new generation VW Tiguan, 144% above its June 2016 result in 5th place overall. But Volvo should be worried about the sales of the V40 (-28%) and S/V60 (-49%). The Hyundai i20 is up 5-fold year-on-year and a stunning 59 spots on May to land in 7th place, by far the nameplate’s best ranking in Sweden. The BMW 5 Series (+39%), Skoda Octavia (+32%), Mercedes E-Class (+76%) and Hyundai i30 (+86%) also make themselves noticed inside the Top 20. Below, the Renault Megane (+107%), Toyota C-HR (#25) and Kia Niro (#35) shine shine the Skoda Kodiaq is up 8 spots on May to #38.
