The Swedish new car market edges up 2.2% year-on-year in July to 24.722 registrations, lifting the year-to-date tally up 3% to a record 218.252 units after seven months. Homegrown market leader Volvo vastly outpaces the overall growth with a 14% surge to 19.1% share, comfortably distancing Volkswagen down 4% to 15.7%. Kia gains four spots on last month to climb to a stunning third place overall with 6.5% of the market, outselling Toyota (+2%), BMW (-7%) and Audi (-15%). Skoda (+10%), Mercedes (+13%) and Peugeot (+28%) also display double-digit gains within the Top 10. Further down, Hyundai (+24%), Porsche (+62%), Land Rover (+102%), Ssangyong (+2350%) and Alfa Romeo (+5500%) all post spectacular gains.

Model-wise, now that the new generation is spreading across dealerships, the Volvo XC60 simply triumphs, with deliveries surging up 54% year-on-year to 8.3% share, also managing to snap the year-to-date lead off the Volvo S/V90 for a mere 10 units at 13.969 vs. 13.959. The S/V90 is knocked down to #2 with a weaker 5.6% share, only 50 sales above the VW Golf (-13%) for the month. Below the Passat (-6%) the Tiguan (+75%) makes it three Volkswagens in the Swedish Top 5 for July. The Fiat Ducato climbs a further 3 spots to #6 thanks to campervan sales, and the Kia Cee’d is up 1% year-on-year and 8 spots on June to break into the Top 10 at #10.

The Toyota C-HR leads recent launches (<12 months) at a solid #19, the Seat Leon is up 17 spots on June to #22, the Peugeot 3008 is up 7-fold on the previous model to #23, the Mercedes GLC is up 60% to #24, the Kia Optima up 14-fold year-on-year thanks to the addition of a station wagon variant and one year after its launch the Kia Niro breaks into the Top 30 for the second time after last January at #29. The Skoda Kodiaq (#45), Audi Q2 (#65), Opel Crossland X (#75 and new to this month) and Hyundai Ioniq (#90) are the other new launches making it into the Swedish Top 100 for July.
