The Portuguese new car market is up a fantastic 18% year-on-year in April to 18.830 registrations, lifting the year-to-date tally up 6% to 78.699. Renault continues to dominate the brands ranking head and shoulders with a 53% surge to 15.3% share this month and up 27% year-to-date. The French manufacturer is followed by another one, Peugeot, also outpacing the market with a 22% gain in April. Volkswagen on the other hand drops 3% in third place ahead of Mercedes (+12%), BMW (+1%) and Fiat posting the largest gain in the Top 25 at +57%. Nissan (+43%) and Citroen (+23%) also shine inside the Top 10, and beyond it’s Ford (+45%), Volvo (+36%), Mazda (+56%) and Suzuki (+138%) that post some of the largest year-on-year gains.

In the models ranking, the Renault Clio is on top once again thanks to deliveries up 39% year-on-year, distancing this month the Renault Captur up 53% to edge past the Peugeot 208 (+58%) for just two units. With the Nissan Qashqai up 86%, the Citroen C3 up 91% and the Renault Megane up 36%, the entire Top Six frankly outpaces a market already galloping pretty fast. The Opel Astra (+28%) and VW Golf (+22%) complete the high performing picture in the Top 10. Further down, the Peugeot 2008 is up 40% in 12th place and the Fiat Tipo is up to #15. Among recent launches (<12 months), the Audi Q2 (#58), Toyota C-HR (#59), Renault Kadjar (#60) and Seat Ateca (#68) are the most popular.
