The Swiss new car market edges up a very shy 0.7% year-on-year in February to 22.809 unit, leading to a year-to-date total down 1.4% to 42.260. Market leader Volkswagen (-21%) continues to be under pressure from Mercedes (+26%) at 2.191 sales and 9.6% share vs. 2.035 and 8.9% for Mercedes. BMW (+1%), Skoda (-10%) and Renault (-2%) follow with Opel (+22%), Seat (+33%) and Toyota (+11%) the only other manufacturers to lodge double-digit gains inside the Top 10. Further down, Volvo (+12%), Fiat (+17%), Jeep (+34%), Mini (+39%), Maserati (+43%), Dacia (+88%), Alfa Romeo (+179%) and Tesla (+266%) are some of the carmakers that improve their score drastically over February 2016.

The Seat Ateca climbs to a February world best #12 in Switzerland.

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia continues to be the market favourite despite a 20% drop and the arrival of the facelift in dealerships. The VW Golf is down an even more depressing 39% whereas the Mercedes C-Class (+53%), VW Tiguan (+138%), Mazda CX-5 (+91%), Mercedes A-Class (+60%) and Opel Mokka (+45%) are the best performers in the Top 12. Among recent launches, the Seat Ateca is up 26 spots on January to a record #12, breaking into the Swiss Top 20 for the first time, the Toyota C-HR is down 10 spots to #33, the Audi Q2 down 7 to #58 and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio makes its very first appearance in a BSCB sales charts at #193 with 19 units registered – we believe – in preparation for the Geneva Auto Show.
