The Finnish new passenger car market is down 5% year-on-year in February to 9.084 registrations, yet a strong January score keeps the year-to-date total in positive at +2% to 21.739. Market leader Toyota posts the largest year-on-year increase in the Top 20 at +37% to hit 1.355 sales and 14.9% share, widening the gap with #2 Skoda (+8%) and #3 Volkswagen (-8%) which led the Full Year 2016 rankings. Year-to-date, Toyota is up 30% to 13.2% share vs. +12% and 11.4% share for Skoda and -2% and 11% share for Volkswagen. Most carmakers in the Top 20 are in negative territory, with Opel (+6%), Mercedes (+5%) and Mazda (+7%) some of the exceptions. Among smaller brands, Mini (+45%), Porsche (+50%), Lexus (+67%) and Jaguar (+133%) shine.

In the midst of a changeover with the facelifted model, the Skoda Octavia shines with sales up 30% to 577 sales and 4.6% share, frankly outpacing the Toyota Auris (+27%), Nissan Qashqai (-2%), Toyota Yaris (+14%) and Avensis (+12%), making it three Toyotas in the Top 5. The Volvo V90 breaks into the Finnish Top 10 for the first time since the nameplate was relaunched last year, the Skoda Fabia is up 101% to #10, the VW Tiguan up 284% to #13 thanks to the new model, the Mercedes E-Class is up 197%, the Volvo XC60 up 49% and the Opel Mokka up 48%.
