Kazakhstan August 2016: Toyota above Lada, Camry leads

Thanks to autoconsulting.kz, we can share with you August data for Kazakhstan, a market that continues to struggle with sales down 44% to 3.800 on a month of August 2015 that was already freefalling 54%. Year-to-date, Kazakh sales amount to 29.199 units, a 58% implosion on the same period a year ago. Toyota brilliantly takes the lead of the brands ranking in August thanks to sales surging 70% to 781 for a 20.6% share, overtaking traditional leader Lada down 45% to 683 and 18%. Hyundai (-61%), Kia (-43%), Renault (-71%) and GAZ (-63%) follow but all skid down, while Kamaz (+47%), Lexus (+200%), JAC (#13), BMW (+169%) and Peugeot (163%) are among the rare manufacturers managing a year-on-year increase. The replacement brand for UZ-Daewoo, Ravon, makes its first appearance in the ranking at #27 with 10 units of the R2 (aka Chevrolet Spark) sold this month in Kazakhstan. The Toyota Camry is the best-selling nameplate in the country for the 2nd month running thanks to 329 sales, it distances the Lada 4×4 (aka Niva) at 293 and the Lada Granta at 217. The Kia Rio is up 4 spots on July to #4, the GAZ Gazelle down 1 to #5, the Toyota RAV4 up 14 to #8, Toyota Land Cruiser 200 up 32 to #9 and the UAZ Bukhanka up 9 to #10. Notice also the Hyundai Santa Fe at #12 vs. #28 year-to-date and the Lexus LX at #22 vs. #30.
