New light vehicle sales in Kuwait are down a harsh 29% year-on-year over the first 7 months of 2016 to just 62.355 registrations. Market leaders Toyota (-37%) and Nissan (-33%) are hit even harder while Mitsubishi (-11%) and Chevrolet (-15%) both gain share just below. Lexus manages to gain 12% over the same period in 2015 and sees its market share leap from 3% a year ago to 4.8% now. Similarly, Ford goes from 2.2% to 2.8% and GMC from 1.9% to 2.4%. Outside the Top 10, notice Jeep up 1%, Hino up 86%, Peugeot up 11% and Jaguar up 27%. Lincoln (+274%), Acura (+261%), SAIC (+144%) and Volvo (+1200%) post extravagant gains but remain at low volumes.

Model-wise, the Toyota Prado remains by far the most popular choice in Kuwait, and this despite sales tumbling down 43% year-on-year to 5.607 for a 9% market share. The Toyota Land Cruiser (+1%) and Camry (-32%) complete a podium 100% Toyota. Excellent performance of the Mitsubishi Pajero up 53% to 4th place with 2.477 sales and of the Nissan Patrol also going against the grain at +8% to 2.387 in 5th position. Notice also the Kia Optima up 53% to #10, the Nissan X-Trail up 22% to #12, Toyota RAV4 up 28% to #18, Mitsubishi Outlander up 70% to #24 and Lexus RX up 74% to #25.
