New light vehicle sales in Bahrain are down 23% year-on-year at end April to 17.800 registrations, and if perennial market leader Toyota manages to improve its gigantic market share further to 47.1% thanks to sales down ‘just’ 20%, it’s a different story for #2 Nissan, down 45% to 1.500 units and 8.4% share. Lexus (-7%) overtakes Hyundai (-14%) to brilliantly leap onto the podium, while Kia (-43%) and Honda (-29%) crumble down. Isuzu (+12%), Ford (+2%), Infiniti (+12%), Porsche (+42%), Suzuki (+48%), Subaru (+32%), Citroen (+27%), Geely (+26%), Jaguar (+30%) and Volvo (+17%) all go against the grain and post positive results over the period.

In the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser is more than ever sovereign, gaining 27% in a market down 23%, resulting in a much improved 13.8% share. The Toyota Group places an unbelievable 10 models inside the Top 12, with the Hilux, Prado, Hiace and Corolla completing the Top 5 just ahead of the Lexus LX at #6. Inside the Top 12 are also the Yaris, RAV4, Camry and Lexus ES. The only non-Toyotas are the Isuzu N-Series and Hyundai Accent, up 81% to #10. Notice also the Ford Taurus up 158% to #20 and the Lexus RX up 126% to #23.
