The South African new car market posts a shy 0.4% year-on-year improvement in November at 51.256 registrations, yet 2015 is headed towards a negative result at -4% after 11 months to 568.584 units. Light commercial vehicles including bakkies (South African for pickup truck) save the market this month at +1% to 15.242 while passenger cars are down 0.6% to 33.038. Toyota is up 18% to 22.9% share but the Volkswagen Group is down 4% to 13.9%, just above Ford at 13.3% (+8%). GM Isuzu overtakes Hyundai-Kia for 4th place.

Boosted by run-out prices before the new generation arrives in February 2016, the Toyota Hilux triumphs with 3.938 sales and 7.7% share above the new Ford Ranger at 5.1% and the facelifted Toyota Corolla/Auris at 5%, relegating the VW Polo and Polo Vivo to #4 and #5 respectively. The Toyota Quantum is up five spots on October to #6, the Ford Figo up 8 to #9, the Hyundai i20 slips out of the Top 10 at #11, the Mercedes C-Class is solid at #15, the Renault Captur up 11 to #21 while the new Toyota Aygo (#39) handicaps the Etios down to #12. The all-new Ford Everest is up 7 ranks to #56 and we welcome the Suzuki Vitara at #138 and the Mazda CX-3 at #143.
