This month new Hungarian car sales are heavily skewed by a government program providing vans to villages – the village caretaker program (“falugondnoki program”) and helping lift the overall market up 30% year-on-year to 9.776 registrations – including 8.192 passenger cars and 1.584 LCVs. The year-to-date total now stands at 76.844 units, up 13% on the same period in 2014. Brand-wise, Volkswagen takes the lead with 12.2% share, mainly thanks to a government-pushed outstanding score by the Transporter (#2) and good holds from the Golf (#8) and Passat (#9). Opel (11.4%), Ford (11.1%) and Suzuki (10.6%) follow. The locally assembled Suzuki Vitara is the best-selling vehicle in the country for the third time in the past four months with 722 sales while the Opel Vivaro – at #3 and 4% share – and Renault Trafic – at #4 and 3.8% – surge to never-seen-before heights thanks to the Hungarian government.
