Hungary Full Year 2017: Suzuki and Vitara #1 again, biggest volume since 2008

Thanks to deliveries soaring 20.4% year-on-year to 116.265, in 2017 the Hungarian new car market post its first six-digit annual volume since 2008 (152.884), a milestone it passed as early as November. If Hungary is well and truly out if recession with 2017 marking its seventh consecutive year of growth, reaching 115% of the volume low of 54.165 units in 2010, we are still almost exactly halfway through to the country’s all-time high of 234.000 units established back in 2004. Considered a local due to its Esztergom factory in the north of the country at the border with Slovakia, Suzuki confirms it is back in the lead of the Hungarian brands charts with a second consecutive win thanks to sales soaring 35% to 13% share. Ford (+19%) and Skoda (+20%) evolve like the market, the latter overtaking Opel (+9%) for third place honours. The rest of the Top 11 is unchanged on 2016 with Toyota (+48%), Dacia (+43%) and Nissan (+25%) outpacing the market. Further down, Alfa Romeo (+296%), Smart (+173%), Porsche (+75%), Mini (+59%), Lexus (+57%), Ssangyong (+47%), Jeep (+42%), Seat (+39%), Maserati (+36%), Mercedes (+36%) and Jaguar (+32%) post the largest gains.

The Suzuki Vitara also signs a second win in a row, beating the market with a 34% surge to 7.6% share. The Skoda Octavia (+16%) remains in 2nd place but sees its share thaw to 5.3%. Excellent performance of the Dacia Duster up 48% despite being in its final year as the first generation of the model, while the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross breaks into the annual Hungarian Top 10 for the first time, more than doubling its sales year-on-year to land at #4, knocking the Ford Focus down to #4. The Ford Kuga leaps another 60% and 8 spots to #7, the Renault Clio is up 29% to #8 and the Nissan Qashqai up 44% to #10. Outside the Top 10, the Renault Megane is up 78% to #19, the Toyota RAV4 up 135% to #21, the Hyundai i30 up 74% to #31 and the Suzuki Baleno up 47% to #38. We welcome the Toyota C-HR at #26, the Suzuki Ignis at #32, VW Tiguan at #37 and Opel Insignia at #43.
