Irish car buyers are getting a good hold of the new bi-annual license plate change modelled on the UK: for its third year, new car sales hit 27.633 units in July, up 47% on July 2014 which was itself up 61% on July 2013. In fact, 19 times as many cars were sold in Ireland in July than in June. This lifts the year-to-date total up 30% on 2014 to 109.960 units. Surprise in the brands pole position: Korean Hyundai almost doubles its deliveries year-on-year (+82%) to 3.154 for a 11.4% market share, edging past 2015 leader Volkswagen at 3.066 units and 11.1% (+35%), itself knocking June leader Toyota down to #3 at 2.860 sales and 10.3% (+48%). Ford (10%) and Nissan up 91% to 9.6% share round up the Top 5. Other great performers in the manufacturers ranking include Honda (+73%), Volvo (+75%), Lexus (+100%), Mitsubishi (+115%) and Suzuki (+167%). Over in the models charts it’s a very stable ranking indeed, with the VW Golf in pole position just above the Nissan Qashqai (+10), Ford Focus, Fiesta and Skoda Octavia. Hyundai places 4 models in the Top 15: the ix35 (+68% to #6), i30 (+124% to #12), i10 (+171% to #14) and i20 (+260% to #15).
