After looking at the March Top 10 models and brands for Europe, we now have access to refined and complete data as is the tradition on BSCB. March tally is confirmed at 1.643.607 registrations, a 11.4% surge on March 2013 and bringing the 1st Quarter result to 3.621.045 deliveries, up a cool 9% on 2014. Within the Top 5 most popular brands, Volkswagen, Renault and Peugeot slightly outperform the market at +12% while below Mercedes (+16%) and Nissan (+23%) shine. Outside the Top 10, notice Hyundai up 20%, Land Rover up 22%, Mini up 43%, Smart up 54%, Porsche up 57%, Mitsubishi up 73% and Jeep up 244%.
…as does the Mitsubishi Attrage, imported from Thailand.
The March models ranking is traditionally skewed by an oversized UK market due to the bi-annual licence plate change, lifting the Ford Fiesta to #2, the Opel Corsa to #3, Ford Focus to #6 and Opel Astra to #10. The Renault Captur misses out on a Top 10 ranking for just 171 units at #11 and its sales growth is not abating at +30% on March 2014. The Peugeot 308 is also very dynamic at #14 (+60%) as are the Mercedes C-Class at #16 (+30%), VW Passat at #17 (+37%) and Opel Mokka at #18 (+44%). Other great gainers inside the Top 100 include the Mini up 98% thanks to the addition of a 5-door variant, the Mazda3 up 88%, Suzuki Swift up 50%, Mitsubishi Outlander up 141% and Mercedes GLA up 70%.
Now a quick roundup on the recent European launches. The VW Golf Sportsvan continues to top them all and maintains itself inside the Top 50 at #48, the Citroen C4 Cactus is down 9 spots on February to #60, the Peugeot 108 up one to #63 and the Nissan Pulsar stable at a lukewarm #85. Both the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X are suffering from their absence (at the time) in the UK and fall to #98 and #101 respectively, but their climb up the ladder will resume next month. The Land Rover Discovery Sport on the contrary is logically up 84 spots to #110. Finally, we welcome two new nameplates in the official European ranking this month: the Mercedes AMG GT at #248 and the Mitsubishi Attrage at #277.
