At 53,296 registrations in 2014, the Slovenian new car market is up an encouraging 6% on 2013. Momentous event in the brands ranking: Volkswagen topples perennial leader Renault thanks to sales up 16% to 8,456 and 15.9% vs. 7,815 and 14.7% (-5%) for the French manufacturer. Skoda jumps on the podium with deliveries up 41% to 4,951, followed by Opel (+15%), Peugeot (-8%) and Citroen (-6%). Dacia more than doubles its sales (+126%) to leap up directly to 7th place. Notice also Nissan up 32%, Seat up 28%, Suzuki up 70% and Porsche up 60%.
The Duster helps push Dacia up to #7 brand in Slovenia in 2014.
However there is no such earthquake in the models ranking: the Renault Clio keeps the lead for the 17th year in a row despite sales down 9% to 3,597 and 6.7% share, potentially eroded by the tremendous success of the Captur breaking into the annual Slovenian Top 5 this year at #5 with 1,392 sales, its best ranking outside of France. The Captur even outsold the Clio in January when it ranked third overall! The 2014 podium is completed by two VWs: the Golf up 11% (#1 in April, August and September) and the Polo up 42% (#1 in January and May).
The VW Golf Sportsvan ranked #6 in August.
In a Top 10 (34.8%) weighting more than in 2013 (33.6%) and 2012 (29.7%) in a rare case of consolidation in Slovenia, the Dacia Duster takes off at +173% and up 19 spots to a splendid 6th place and the Skoda Rapid is up 29 ranks and 187% to lodge its first annual Top 10 ranking in Slovenia at #9. Notice also the Dacia Sandero up 87% to #12, the Nissan Juke up 98% to #13, Seat Leon up 71% to #15, Fiat Panda up 73% to #18 and the Skoda Yeti up 117% to #22. The VW Golf Sportsvan is by far the most successful new launch of 2014 here, landing directly at #25 and peaking at #6 in August, followed by the Citroen C4 Cactus at #94.
