A new monthly update on BSCB, I can now share with you All-brands and All-models rankings for South Korea, including imports. 127.627 new light vehicles found a buyer in the country in September, of these 17,027 were imports, a gargantuan 34% year-on-year increase. In the brands sales charts, below the 5 locals (Hyundai, Kia, GM South Korea, Renault Samsung and SsangYong), Mercedes overtakes BMW to become the best-selling imported brand thanks to 3,538 units and 2.8% share vs. 3,303 and 2.6% for BMW. In 8th place overall, Audi is above Volkswagen anew, followed by Toyota, Lexus, Ford, Land Rover, Mini and Jeep.
Model-wise, this month the Mercedes E-Class is head and shoulders above the competition as far as imported models are concerned: it ranks #22 with 1,683 sales and 1.3% share, the only import to sell more than 1,000 units… The BMW 5 Series follows at #29 and 912 sales, ahead of the Audi A6 (#30) and BMW 3 Series (#32). The most spectacular progression is delivered by the Mercedes GLA, up 80 ranks on last month to break into the South Korean Top 50 for its 2nd month of sales at #50 and 424 units! Notice also the BMW X4 up 41 spots to #102 and the Lincoln MKC making its very first appearance at #132 with 31 sales.
