The Irish automotive market has well and truly entered its traditional winter sleep period, with just 2,045 new cars registered in October, a little more than half the September score but a very healthy 21% above October 2013. The year-to-date total now stands at 95,220 units, up a splendid 30% on 2013. Smaller market traditionally means higher volatility and this month is no exception in Ireland with an interesting milestone: after the Dacia Duster in August (another relatively slow month), the Dacia Sandero takes the lead of the models ranking, equal with the VW Golf. Granted, 107 sales were enough to achieve this feat but this is a testimony of how well the Renault-owned low-cost brand launched just 18 months ago has been accepted here. With the Duster back up up 24 spots on September to #5, Dacia is simply the 2nd most successful manufacturer in Ireland this month with a 9% market share and below just Volkswagen… Other highlights include the Opel Insignia climbing up to #3, the Renault Clio up to #4, Audi A4 up to #12 and Citroen DS3 up to #18.
