Traditionally with a little bit of delay I can share with you detailed information about the Thai new car market for August, and the news continue to be pretty bad with new car sales on a race to the bottom: down another 31% year-on-year this month to 68.835 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 579.273 units, down 38% on 2013. The Thai brands ranking shows monolithic stability with the August Top 9 best-sellers identical to year-to-date. Toyota holds double the market share than any other manufacturer at 36.4% vs. 18% for Isuzu with Honda (12.8%) and Mitsubishi (7.3%) in tow. Ford is once again the most popular non-Asian brand at #6 ahead of Chevrolet at #8.

In the models ranking, stability reigns also with the Top 9 unchanged on July. The Toyota Hilux (15.7%) and Isuzu D-Max (14.3%) are slightly below their year-to-date market shares while the Toyota Vios (6%) is frankly above in third place. The Mitsubishi Triton is also a notch higher at 4.3% and #6 while the Honda Fit simply doubles its 2014 share in 8th position with 2.8% vs. #17 so far this year. The Nissan Navara is up to #12 vs. #20 year-to-date, potentially helped by the new generation’s production kick-off, while the Mazda3 is up a further two spots on July to #16 and the Chevrolet Sonic is up 11 to #22.
