It’s looking like a very hot summer indeed for new car sales in Sweden: up an extremely impressive 26% year-on-year in May to 28,749 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 151,747 units, up a gargantuan 18% on 2013. Interestingly this growth is fuelled by private demand: over the first half of 2014, private sales accounted for 36% of the new car market in Sweden vs. 32% over the same period last year. Volvo (+34%) and Volkswagen (+33%) lead and both outperform the market while Audi (+14%) reclaims the third spot it held over the Full Year 2013. Toyota (+34%), Mercedes (+71%), Mitsubishi (+288%) and Dacia (+110%) also shine in the Top 10.
The new Station Wagon pushes the Peugeot 308 up to #13.
In the models ranking, the podium is unchanged on last month with the Volvo V70 reigning supreme at 7.2% share ahead of the VW Passat (5.4%) and Golf (4.9%) both above their year-to-date levels once again. Let’s salute the Audi A4 up 8 spots on May to #9, the Mitsubishi Outlander up 11 to break into the Top 10 at #10, the Renault Clio up to #12, Peugeot 308 up 20 to #13, Renault Mégane up 9 to #19, Dacia Duster up 17 to #25, Hyundai i20 up 12 to #26, the Nissan Note up to #36 vs. #71 year-to-date and the BMW X3 up to #47 vs. #67.
