The new car market in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory located North-East of Australia, continues to struggle: down 14% year-on-year in June to 861 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 4,785 units, down 9% on 2013. This month and for the first time we have been following this market monthly at BSCB (2 years) the Top 4 best-sellers are 100% pick-up trucks – all foreign, in stark contrast with the metropolitan French market: the Ford Ranger reigns supreme with 69 sales and 8% share ahead of the Toyota Hilux at 7.3%, the Nissan Navara up 15 spots on May at 5.1% and the Kia K2700 up 28 to #4. The Dacia Duster is knocked down to #5 as a result while the Hyundai ix35 is up 22 ranks to #6 and the Hyundai H1 is up 21 to #9. Notice also the Citroen C3 at #10 and the Great Wall Wingle leading the Chinese charge at #21 vs. #37 year-to-date – as a reminder Chinese cars are not sold in metropolitan France but are in New Caledonia due to more relaxed anti-pollution and security laws in the territory.
