Sweden May 2014: Volvo strong in market up 7%

May data is now available, with the first country off the starting blocks being Sweden. New car sales are up another smooth 7% year-on-year in May to 27,652 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 122,998 units, up a flamboyant 16% on 2013. Local carmaker Volvo is particularly strong at home this month, grabbing 21.5% of the market thanks to 5,946 sales vs. 19.9% year-to-date. Indeed, the V70, #1 at 8% share, XC60 at #4 and 4.5%, S/V60 at #5 and 4.4% and the V40 at #6 and 3.8% all deliver market shares above their year-to-date levels! Reversely, Volkswagen (14.6%), Toyota (6.2%) and BMW (5.3%) are below their YTD shares. Notice also Kia up to #5 and Renault up to #8.
In the models ranking, the VW Passat reclaims the #2 spot it held over the Full Year 2013 off its little sister the VW Golf, both very solid at 4.8% and 4.6% respectively. The Toyota Auris is up 5 spots on April to land in 7th place, the Fiat Ducato impressively remains inside the Swedish Top 10 at #9, the Renault Clio is up 4 ranks to #14, Audi A4 up 7 to #17 and VW Tiguan up 7 to #26. Finally, let’s salute the Fiat 500 up to #35 vs. #65 year-to-date and the Volvo XC90 at #43 vs. #62.
