New car sales in Germany are up an encouraging 4% year-on-year in February to 209,349 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 415,345 units, up 6% on 2013. Whereas it had never achieved that feat in the brand’s 77 year history until last month, Volkswagen manages the impossible: a repeat of its monopoly of the Top 4 best-sellers! The VW Golf leads the way as usual in spite of sales down 4% year-on-year to 14,312 units, followed by the VW Polo (+16%), VW Tiguan achieving an all-time high third position thanks to sales up 15% to 4,933 and 2.4% share (previous best: #4 last month) and the VW Passat at #4 (-17%). First non-VW in the ranking, the Opel Corsa is up a huge 16 spots on January to #5.
Very first appearance of the Porsche Macan in the German ranking.
Further down, the Skoda Octavia drops out of the Top 10 at #12 after 5 consecutive months in it, the Ford Fiesta up 46% on February 2013 to #13, the Seat Leon up 9 ranks on January and 60% year-on-year to #23, the Nissan Qashqai up 21 to #29, “true” #1 foreigner (meaning excluding Skoda and Seat) and one of only 5 strangers in the Top 40 with the Renault Clio (#31), Fiat 500 (#34), Hyundai i30 (#38) and Toyota Yaris (#39). Finally, notice the Mitsubishi ASX up 101% to #65, the BMW X5 up 180% to #80, Dacia Logan up 139% to #88 and the Porsche Macan making its very first appearance in the ranking at #194 with 91 sales.
