The Spanish new car market confirms it is back into positive waters this month: up 7% year-on-year to 53,489 registrations, however still the 2nd weakest January result in 18 years and 54% off the January record of 116,434 sales established in 2007. The Top 3 brands this month all deliver impressive growth: Volkswagen is up 41% on January 2013, Peugeot up 26% and Citroen up 50%. With a reduced market has come much increased volatility in the Spanish models ranking, and this month is no exception: the VW Golf is up 8 spots on December to lodge its 2nd ever #1 month after last September thanks to 1,826 sales and 3.4% share. After topping the sales charts 3 times in 2013, the Dacia Sandero starts 2014 in a great way: it ranks #2 with 1,486 units and 2.8%, just above 2013’s leader the Seat Ibiza (2.7%), Seat Leon (2.6%) and VW Polo (2.4%).
