The Israeli new car market is up 9% year-on-year in December, traditionally a slower month, to 11,586 registrations, which brings the final 2013 total to 212,581 units, up a satisfying 4% on 2012. The new generation Toyota Corolla definitely strikes a chord with Israeli customers: it celebrates its 5th consecutive month atop the models ranking and hits its highest market share so far at 12.2% thanks to 1,411 sales, more than double any other car in the market! It is however not quite enough to enable to Corolla to take the lead in the annual ranking: the honour goes to the Kia Picanto thanks to another solid month at 683 units and 5.9% (#2), adding up to 9,659 and 4.5% over the Full Year vs. 9,370 and 4.4% for the Corolla. The Ford Focus is virtually dead at #68 this month, making it slip down to #3 this year.
Helped by the new S-Cross variant, the Suzuki SX4 amazes again and lodges a second month in a row on the podium at #3 with 424 sales and 3.7%, while the Kia Rio is up a huge 33 spots on last month to land at #4 with 354 units and 3.1% vs. #13 and 1.9% in 2013. The other two great performers in the Top 10 this month are the Skoda Fabia up 21 ranks to #6 and the Suzuki Alto up 15 to #8, while the Skoda Octavia remains at an excellent 7th place vs. #14 this year. Finally, let’s salute the record-breaking performance of the Chinese-made MG350, up a mammoth 77 spots on November to become the very first Chinese model to break into the monthly Israeli Top 20 at #17 with 171 sales and 1.5% share. It finishes the year at #69 vs. #144 in 2012.
