The Austrian new car market is down 5% year-on-year in 2013 to 319,035 registrations, and the best performance of the year is to be found in the brands ranking: below perennial leader Volkswagen down 6% to 57,758 sales and 18.1% share, Hyundai is up 3 spots and 9% to land in a fantastic 2nd place at 21,103 units and 6.6%, passing Skoda (-3%), Ford (-9%) and Audi (-7%). Hyundai places 3 models inside the Top 12: the i20 is up a splendid 40% and 7 ranks to #6, the i30 is down 11% to #7 and the ix35 up 31% to #12. That’s as many as Volkswagen, except the German manufacturers actually monopolises the Austrian podium for the 2nd time running (and ever) with the Golf at #1 for the 37th consecutive year, up 12% to 16,076 sales and 5%, ahead of the Polo up 4% to #2 and the Tiguan down 12% to #3.

Seat Alhambra Austria 2013The Seat Alhambra is at its best in the world in Austria.

Two Skodas follow, both down 5% year-on-year and holding onto their 2012 ranking: the Octavia at #4 and Fabia at #5. Other great performers this year in Austria include the BMW 3 Series up 42% and 19 spots to #9, the Nissan Qashqai up 14% to #10, Fiat 500 up a very impressive (for its age!) 34% and 14 ranks to #11, Renault Clio up 20% and 11 spots to #13, Audi Q3 up 13 ranks to #20, Seat Leon up 47% and 27 spots to #22, Seat Alhambra up 12 ranks to #29, Mazda CX-5 up 110% to #31, Opel Mokka up to #34, Dacia Sandero up 114% to #35 and Toyota Auris up 187% to 352.
