40th consecutive month of year-on-year decline in September for the Italian new car market at -3% to 107,124 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,005,126 units, down 8% on 2012. After an awkward month of August when the Punto was only 6 units below the Panda, we’re back to normal this month with the Panda at 8.1% and the Punto at 4.3%, testing new low levels as the nameplate’s lowest ever market share since its original launch in November 1993… That sad record has been broken 3 times in the last year: from 4.7% in September 2008 to 4.6% in August 2012, 4.4% in March 2013 and 4.3% this month.
Reversely, the Fiat 500L manages a podium ranking for the 2nd month running thanks to 3,592 sales and 3.4%, now taking its distance with its “inspiration” the 500, down to #8 and 2.2% this month. With the Lancia Ypsilon stable at #4, the Top 4 is 100% Italian for the 7th month in a row. Other great performers in Italy in September include the Renault Captur up 4 spots to a best-ever #16, the Audi A3 up a further two to #17, Mini Countryman up 12 to #20, Chevrolet Spark up 5 to #22 vs. #32 year-to-date and the Peugeot 2008 breaking into the Italian Top 50 for the first time at #38 with 714 sales and 0.7% share.
