We continue on our exploration of the worldwide Top 20 markets halfway through 2013, now to Turkey. Over the period the Turkish light vehicle market gains 10% to 381,743 registrations, with Passenger Cars alone up 19% to 292,106 units. At the same time last year I had access to much less models data information, in particular I had no LCVs, so this makes the comparison a little biased. In any case, the Fiat Linea reign more supreme than ever on the Turkish sales charts, up 21% to 19,082 sales and 5%, nearly two percentage points above the #2! Like last year two Renaults follow but their order is reversed: the Symbol is up one spot but gains less than the market at +7% to 12,715 units in spite of the new model, while the Fluence is stable at 12,401 sales and 3.2%.
There was a time no so long ago (2011) when Light Commercial Vehicles were the overall best-sellers in Turkey. Not anymore, but we still find 3 inside the Top 6 halfway through 2013: the Ford Transit leads the charge at #4 with 10,909 units and 2.9% share, only 14 units above the Fiat Doblo at 10,895 while the Ford Connect ranks #6 at 10,430. The VW Polo is up a shiny 35% year-on-year to #7, the Renault Clio up a huge 224% to #8 thanks to the new model and the Ford Focus Sedan up 19% to #9.
The Peugeot 301 is the best performing all-new model over the period.
Other great performers in Turkey over the period include the Hyundai i20 Troy up 40% to #15, VW Golf up 32% to #17, Opel Astra Sedan up 140% to #18, Dacia Duster up 31% to #19 and BMW 3 Series up 68% to #29. As far as all-new models are concerned, the Peugeot 301 leads the way, landing at #21 with 5,169 sales and 1.4% with its twin the Citroen C-Elysee in tow at #26 with 4,778 units and 1.3%.
