On the positive side, the year-on-year drop is minimal this month in Spain at -0.6% to 72,869 registrations. On the negative side, we are looking at the weakest June figure in over 20 years and the year-to-date total halfway through the year drops below 400,000 units (386,703 and -5%) for the first time in, here again, over 20 years. This year the Spanish have decided they would buy Opel Corsas. The German supermini tops the models ranking for the third time in the last 4 months thanks to 2,949 sales and 4% share. This is however still not enough to take the lead year-to-date: the Seat Ibiza holds onto its throne with 13,690 sales and 3.5% even though it only ranked #1 in April this year.
Renault has a stellar month, topping the brands ranking with just under 10% share vs. #9 and 5% in May. The French carmaker places the Clio at #2 (+10 spots on May) with 2,854 units and 3.9%, the Megane at #4 (+17!) with 2,270 sales and 3.1%, the Dacia Sandero at #5 (+11) with 2,227 units and 3.1% and the Scenic at #15 (+15). This could potentially be the result of an aggressive push to short-term rentals in the wake of summer. Other great performers in Spain this month include the Hyundai i30 up 3 spots on May to #11, the BMW 3 Series up 29 to #21, the Fiat Panda up 23 to #25, Renault Captur up 47 to #54 and the Seat Mii up 66 to #58. Finally, notice the Mercedes CLA up one rank to #56 and the Peugeot 2008 up 7 to #75.
