New car sales in Austria limit the damage in June, down just 5% year-on-year to 31,279 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 171,204 units, down 8% on 2012. The Top 4 best-selling models are identical to the year-to-date ranking: the VW Golf holds the top spot for the 43rd time in the last 44 months with 1,579 sales and 5%, followed by the VW Polo (4%), VW Tiguan (2.7%) and Skoda Octavia (2%). The Nissan Qashqai continues to impress, up one spot on May to #5 and #6 year-to-date vs. #14 in 2012, while the Hyundai ix35 remains extremely solid at #6 and the Renault Clio is up 12 ranks on last month to #7.
Hyundai manages to place no less than 3 models inside the Austrian Top 9 this month, which is as many as Volkswagen! The i20 is down 3 spots to #8 while the i30 is up 5 to #9. Other great performers in Austria this month include the Dacia Sandero up 14 ranks to #12, the Opel Zafira up 10 to #15, Mazda CX-5 up 35 to #18, Citroen C4 Picasso up 28 to #21 and the Ford Galaxy up 32 to #26. Both the Renault Captur (#39) and the Peugeot 2008 (#43) break into the Austrian Top 50 for the first time this month, and they should climb the sales charts fast given how keen Austrian consumers are on buying small SUVs. Finally, notice the Opel Adam up to #67, the Chevrolet Trax up to #89 and the Renault Zoe breaking into the Top 100 for the first time at #96, making Austria the 2nd country in the world so far with France where the Zoe ranked inside the monthly Top 100.
