New car sales in Israel are up 4% year-on-year in May to 19,418, pushing the year-to-date total just a little bit more into positive at 93,945 units, up 2% on 2012. If last month the Hyundai i35 (aka Elantra) edged past the Ford Focus by just 16 units, in May only 17 sales separate the Hyundai i30 at 978 sales and 5% share and the Ford Focus, in second spot again at 961 units and 4.9%. However its regularity at the highest level means the Ford Focus remains by far the most popular model in the country so far in 2013 thanks to 5,473 sales and 5.8%, the Hyundai i30 taking the 2nd place at 3,855 units and 4.1%.
The Kia Picanto is up one spot on April to land on the third step of the podium with 758 sales and 3.9%, followed by the Hyundai i20 up 4 ranks to #4 and the Renault Fluence stable at #5. The Mazda2 is up a brilliant 25 spots to #6, the Nissan Micra stays in the Top 10 at #9, the Hyundai ix35 is up 6 ranks to #13, the Mazda CX-5 remains at an excellent 16th position and the Skoda Rapid is up 21 spots to break into the Israeli Top 20 for the very first time at #20 and 1.6% share.
