CAAM data indicates that sales of all automobiles in China are up 13% year-on-year to 1,841,700 units in April, bringing the year-to-date total to 7,266,200 units. As is the tradition I give you the Passenger Cars ranking first, as usual this ranking does not include imports. The VW Lavida enjoys its 4th consecutive month in pole position thanks to 33,933 sales, up 70% year-on-year. In fact the podium is identical to last month’s, with the Ford Focus at #2 and 30,673 units (+41%) and the Buick Excelle rounding up the podium with 25,336 sales, up just 9% year-on-year. The performance of the month goes to the Honda CR-V, up a whopping 15 spots on March to land in 4th place, equalling its best-ever position in China (also reached in March 2012) but smashing its monthly sales record at a round 25,000 units.

If Japanese models are clearly back in fashion in China, local cars are falling down the ranking once again, led for the 2nd month in a row by the Great Wall Haval H6 at #17 with 15,418 sales (-3), ahead of the Emgrand EC7 at #20 and 13,732 units (+1), the Great Wall Voleex C30 at #25 with 13,089 sales (-3) and the Chery QQ at #36 (-8), with the BYD F3 Surui surprisingly down 11 ranks on March to #41. Reversely, the Nissan Teana, boosted by the new generation of the model, is up a huge 64 spots on last month to #23 with 13,144 sales.

Among recent launches, the Ford Ecosport is up a massive 92 ranks to #71 at 5,744 units, the JAC Refine S5 and Peugeot 3008 both up 7 to #98 and #99 respectively and the ChangAn Ouliwei up 84 to #114. We welcome no less than 5 all-new models in the ranking this month: the Audi Q3 leads the charge at #107 with 3,780 sales, the Soueast V6 Lingshi lands directly at #171 and 1,760 units, the Shanghai Englon SX7 ranks #177 with 1,566 sales, the FAW Besturn X80 is #184 at 1,195 units and the BYD Sirui is #250 with 211 sales.
