China 3 months 2013: VW Sagitar and Nissan Sylphy impress

After going through March sales in detail for China, as is now the tradition we are exploring the year-to-date ranking for a bit of a longer-term perspective on things. As we spoke about for the last 3 months, both the VW Lavida (+110% year-on-year) and the Ford Focus (+156%) deliver exceptional results thanks to the arrival of new generations. They lead with 121,490 and 96,180 sales respectively. The Chevrolet Sail remains #3 with sales up 25% to 77,767 while the Buick Excelle loses the top spot it held one year ago, dropping 3 spots and 2% to #4 at 74,740 units. The VW Sagitar is the third model in the Top 5 (and the Top 50) to see its sales more than double year-on-year, up 191% to #5 and 68,804.
Nissan Sylphy
In addition to the Focus and Sagitar, the third model to make its appearance in the YTD Top 10 over the period is the Nissan Sylphy, up a massive 93% year-on-year to 55,002 sales at #10 and only 550 units away from the 8th position held by the Hyundai Verna (+15%). Notice also the Buick Excelle XT/GT up 8 ranks to #11, the Hyundai Elantra Langdong best performing newcomer at #15 and 51,881 units, the VW Polo up 88% to #16, VW Magotan up 51% to #17 and the Emgrand EC7 up 53% to #18 to become the best-selling Chinese passenger car at home at #18 ahead of the Great Wall Haval H6 (#19), Chery QQ (#20) and Great Wall Voleex C30 (#21).
ChangAn CS35
There is a total of 12 Chinese models in the Top 50, including the all-new BYD F3 Surui landing at #27 and the DongFeng Future up 71% to #36. Out of 302 locally produced models, no less than 49 are new in the ranking. Let’s notice the Kia K3 landing at #28, the Great Wall Haval M4 at #40, Venucia R50/D50 #58, Hyundai Santa Fe #67, Brilliance H230 #72, Buick Encore #79 and ChangAn CS35 #86.
