Russia February 2013: Hyundai Solaris and Kia Rio impress

New car sales in Russia continue on their excellent run: after a record year in 2012 the market is up a further 2% year-on-year in February to 210,666 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 372,743 units, up 3% on 2012. The Lada Granta enjoys its 6th consecutive month in pole position thanks to 12,207 sales and 5.8% while the Hyundai Solaris ranks at a best-ever #2 for the 5th time ever (all in the last 13 months) after February 2012March 2012May 2012 and January 2013 in spite of sales down 9% year-on-year to 8,425 units and 4%. The Lada Kalina rounds up the podium like in January with 7,151 sales and 3.4%, down 11%.

Excellent month for the Kia Rio, up one spot on last month to a record 4th position with 6,768 sales and 3.2%, its highest ever market share also reached last October. The Rio is now also #4 year-to-date and #2 foreign model behind the Hyundai Solaris. Star of the month in January at #4, the Renault Duster is down two ranks to a still astounding 6th place this month at 5,964 units and 2.8%, making it #5 year-to-date with 11,338 sales and 3%. Both Daewoo models imported from Uzbekistan enjoy a staggering second wind in this start of 2013: the Daewoo Nexia is up a huge 68% year-on-year to #10 while the Matiz is up 64% to #19. Notice also the Nissan Qashqai up 7 spots to #13, the Lada Largus stable at #14 and the Hyundai ix35 at #22.

    It’s only plus 2%, and a dozen larger brands are scoring less than Feb. ’12.
    Renault, Opel, Daewoo and Mits had a (very) good month though.

      Yes it is an excellent month given 2012 was an all-time record. I consider improving on a record rather excellent, don’t you? 😉
