December new cars sales are down 21% year-on-year in December in Austria to 18,421 registrations, bringing the Full Year 2012 total to 336,010 units, down 6% on 2011. Historical event this month: Volkswagen manages to place 6 models in the Top 6! To my knowledge it is the first time in the history of automobile in any country that Volkswagen has managed this feat, traditionally reserved to Toyota in the Middle East or South East Asia! The Golf leads the charge with 1,029 sales, followed by the Polo at 603, Tiguan at 558, Sharan at 472, Touran at 342 and Passat at 339…

Other great performers this month include the VW Bus up 9 spots on November to #11, the Fiat 500 up 17 to #12, Subaru XV up to a best-ever #15, Peugeot 208 up 32 to #17, Suzuki Swift up to #19, Mazda CX-5 up to #34 and the Ford B-Max breaking into the Austrian Top 50 for the first time at #50. Notice also the Opel Mokka down 12 ranks to #59. Brand-wise, Volkswagen grabs 23.6% of the Austrian market vs. 18.3% in the Full Year and Hyundai is up to #3.
