Indonesian consumers are on a car buying frenzy in 2012… The new car market passed the historical 100,000 monthly sales milestone for the first time ever last June at 101,743. Since then, this barrier has been broken again twice in 3 months, with July sales at a record 102,512 and September figures now in at an astounding 102,111 units! The year-to-date total stands at 816,322 sales, on track to break the 1 million mark by the end of the year for the first time ever in Indonesia and in any South-East Asian country for that matter!
In this euphoric context, the Toyota Avanza lodges mammoth month after mammoth month (try saying that sentence really fast) at 14,989 units and 14.7% share and is followed by its twin the Daihatsu Xenia with 6,839 sales and 6.7%. The Toyota Innova rounds up the podium at 6,039 units while the Suzuki Ertiga has now solidly hooked itself atop the Indonesian models ranking, #4 again this month with 4,846 sales and 4.7%.
The main event in September is the arrival within the Top 10 of the all-new Honda Brio at #10 with 2,410 units and 2.4% share for only its 2nd month in Indonesia, up 7 spots and 127% on August. The Brio is already the brand’s best-seller in the country. August’s star the Nissan Evalia takes a breather, down 9 ranks to #15 with 2,066 sales. Finally, notice the Mitsubishi Mirage making its first appearance in the ranking at #22 and 1,134 units.
