This update is now a regular one on BSCB, the only website in the world to give you a Top 150 models ranking worldwide! This compilation has been made possible thanks to the hard work of Austin Rutherford and is based on available sales data for around 80 countries, except for Ford, General Motors and Renault figures which are based on official world reports. There is one change this month: VW Jetta sales do not include the Chinese Bora anymore as the current generation is a China-specific model that doesn’t have much to do with the original Bora. Note also that Dacia/Renault Logan sales now include Nissan NP200 (pick-up), Lada Largus (MCV) and Mahindra Verito (sedan) sales as these are variants of the original model. However Logan and Sandero sales have not yet been merged as the new generation is not on sale yet.
Now that these details are ironed out, let’s get straight into the ranking. No surprise on top, the Toyota Corolla still leads the way by far with 103,835 sales, adding up to 690,216 over the first 8 months of 2012, and has a 30,000 units advantage over the Ford Focus at 72,447 sales. Boosted by the success of the current generation in China where it is called Sagitar, the VW Jetta stays on the podium even when Chinese Bora sales are removed with 68,525 units, vs. #12 year-to-date.
Also helped by the launch of the new generation in China, the Hyundai Elantra jumps 8 spots on June to an excellent 4th place with 66,539 sales and ranks #9 year-to-date at 429,187 units. The Ford F-Series is also in great shape, up 2 ranks to #5 and passing the VW Golf, while the Ford Fiesta is down one spot to #7, the VW Passat up 2 to #8, the Toyota Camry stable at #10 and the VW Polo up one to #10.
Further down, the Honda Civic is up 2 ranks to #13, the VW Gol/Voyage is lifted by a very strong Brazilian market, up 6 spots to #17, as is the Ford Palio/Siena up a massive 15 ranks to #27 and the Fiat Uno up 18 to #39. The Honda Fit/Jazz is up 4 to #18, the Hyundai Tucson/ix35 up 7 to #23, the Renault/Dacia Logan up 5 to #31, the Dodge RAM up 5 to #35, the Renault/Dacia Duster breaks into the worldwide Top 50 for potentially the first time, up 7 spots to #45 and 26,923 sales, the Chevrolet Colorado is up 47 to #81 and the Peugeot 208 is up 22 to #84.
As far as Chinese models are concerned, the Wuling Sunshine leads the way at #24 with 37,210 sales, followed by the Wuling Rongguang/Xingwang at #49 with 24,819 units, the Wuling Hongguang at #53 with 23,723 sales, the Foton Forland at #56 with 23,464 sales, the Great Wall Haval H6 at #103 with 14,458 sales, the ChangAn Minibus at #133 with 11.304 units, the Chery QQ at #138 with 10,982 sales, the Emgrand EC7 at #139 with 10,925 units and the Chery Tiggo at #151 and 9,907 sales.
