After going through a Top 150 models ranking worldwide for July 2012, let’s have a closer look at the year-to-date ranking to track down longer-term trends. The Top 2 models are unchanged vs. 2011: the Toyota Corolla leads the way with an estimated 690,216 sales followed by the Ford Focus at 575,281 units. Helped by the new generation, the Toyota Camry jumps an impressive 8 spots on 2011 onto the podium with 458,080 sales but only 30,000 units separate the #3 from the #10 so these rankings will almost certainly change by the end of the year. The VW Golf is down from #3 in 2011 to #4 over the period at 454,041 units, and the upcoming 7th generation could help bring it back onto the worldwide podium by year-end.
Compared to the Full Year 2011 ranking, the Ford Fiesta is stable at #5, the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford F-Series and VW Passat are all up 2 spots to #6, #7 and #8 respectively. The Hyundai Elantra is down 3 to #9 and the Nissan Versa/Tiida/Sunny is up 5 to #10. Further down, great performers include the Suzuki Swift/DZire boosted by its exceptional Indian performance and up 14 ranks to #17 with 320,230 sales, the Kia Rio/K2 is up a massive 61 spots to #32 with 239,497 units thanks to great scores in China and Russia.
The Kia Optima is up 30 ranks to #48 with 186,753 sales, the Chevrolet Malibu is up 22 to #50 at 181,411 units, the Wuling Hongguang makes its first appearance in the worldwide ranking at #57, the Renault/Dacia Duster is up 33 to #66 and broke into the worldwide Top 50 in July, the Toyota Prius c/Aqua lands directly at #69 and the Honda NBOX ranks #80.
